Not in the lab no. Some of the other students in my lab do, but I don’t. I think it is really important to maintain a balance between life and work. That said, you might find me reading or writing things later in the evenings at weekend, as I also do some consultancy editing for the Royal Society of Chemistry.

It is very important to have a social life outside of work. For this reason our work likes us to have our weekends as our free time, to wind down after the working week and relax so we are fresh to work on monday. Sometimes we host science events at the weekends so on those days, yes some of us work at weekends 🙂

Yes and no… Like Neil I don’t go into the lab at the weekend. However, I’m usually mulling over ideas in my head and relaxing with a CD on or reading a book often helps me gather those ideas together! You do need to make time when you aren’t working!

I try not to but things are busy I have to. Last weekend I spent some of my Saturday marking coursework so the students could get there results quicker.

Sometimes I do if it is too busy, But normally I would go outside for travellinga or attend some societies on weekends. Life pace in UK is comparatively slow and relaxed.
