It’s a subject that fascinated me, as I always liked to know how things fitted together and how mechanical things worked. I remember one of my favourite books growing up was ‘How Things Work’ and a few trips to the Science Museum in London and seeing cutaway models of engines and that just inspired me. My dad was an electrical engineer, so he was quite practical too, and taught me a lot about basic engineering principles.

Several of my friends chose to do engineering at University, and all of them seem to have very interesting jobs. One of them (someone called Keith Scott) owns a company that manufactures downhill mountain bikes, which he designs himself – google Banshee Bikes – now that’s a pretty cool career I think.
