The best part is being able to set my own agenda. I get to decide what I research. I then have to find the money to do the work and the people to help me do it. Some of those people are scientists in other areas of chemistry, physics and even biology. Meeting and getting to know these people and learning new things from this is an incredible experience and probably the best thing about being a scientist.

Best thing about my job is when you do an experiment and it works and it is the first time someone EVER as been able to do it! You were the first!!!

Undoubtedly, the best thing about my job is that you get to meet your heroes. I have been lucky enough to meet and interact with many prominent researchers whom I greatly admire. I also must say that my supervisor is one of my heroes! I’m not sure there are many other jobs I could do where I’d be able to say such a thing 🙂

Everyone I think is in the same boat to me here – the best part about science is when you get to discover brand new things (and make brand new molecules) that no one else in the world has ever done. We live in a world of around 7 billion people, and being that 1 in 7000000000 who has done something unique – that’s pretty special.
