I’ve never really been injured in the lab. I’ve cut myself or burnt myself but nothing serious. I have a friend who got a nasty chemical spill on his face and if he had not been wearing goggles he might have lost his eyesight so it is always important to be safe!
I’m very lucky to say I haven’t been seriously injured either, but I have had a few close calls with having to fight fires that other people started (by accident), which can be rather scary. I have also had a large glass funnel blow up in my face, completely unexpectedly, but amazingly I wasn’t hurt, although I think my safety specs saved my eyes!
We take a lot of care to think about what we’re doing when we’re working to try and prevent incidents like these and we wear the right safety equipment and always wear our safety specs – they really can save you eyes!
