I do enjoy my job as a PhD studying in university. The most interesting part of my job so far is trying some fantastic techniques and making research progress step by step. Actually, the process is tough and full of unknown things, turning into my nightmare and making me frustrated. However, thanks to my dear supervisor and colleagues in the lab, things are getting better and better, and I gained great joy through this endless exploration process. The next happy thing for being a PhD is that schedules are always flexible so I take control of my time and try many enjoyable things. Like going to gym, attending school choir and playing tennis with friends.
Absolutely! I wouldn’t still be doing my current job of nearly 9 years if I didn’t. I like the challenges that my job throws up for me in research – no two days are ever the same, and sometimes (when things go well and you discover something new) it can be really exciting. Teaching is good fun too – I love being able to help the next generation of chemists to learn and pass on my knowledge and experience. Honestly, if I didn’t do this job, I’m not sure what else I would do.
Yes… very much so. I’ve enjoyed science for a long time… since I started playing with a chemistry set when I was a kid. Now my chemistry set is much bigger and focused on looking at big questions.
Absolutely (I wouldn’t be doing it otherwise)! I’ve always enjoyed doing bits of chemistry since I was little, but now I love the challenges that research throws at me every day, teaching the next generation of chemistry students and all the amazing people from around the world who I meet along the way. There is rarely a dull part of my working life.
I love my job!!! Still 4 years on, I do not see it as a job. I look at it as a part of who I am. Each day brings something new and exciting. Seeing science being done here at WCAIR is truly inspirational and to be part of a team focused on the same goal, a cure, makes it worth all my time 🙂
